Call for Applications: Scholarships for Students of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian Communities for the 2023/2024 School Year

General conditions for awarding scholarships:

 

Scholarships are awarded to students from the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities enrolled in the first, second, third year of higher secondary education in Kosovo, for the 2023/2024 school year.

 

The purpose of the project:

 

The main goal of the project is to improve the academic performance and employability of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian students in secondary schools, which will be achieved through various approaches, including improving educational outcomes for Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian children and youth. Egyptian by providing scholarships, mentoring and tutoring for Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian students in high school, education and enabling the transition of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian students from education to the labor market.

The main goals of the intervention are:

Increasing the inclusion of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian students in higher secondary education;
Improving the academic performance of students and the employment of students who complete upper secondary education;
Providing various initiatives, including the awarding of scholarships aimed at reducing the dropout of students from the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities;
Providing mentoring and tutoring programs;

 

Documents required for application:

 

Certification from the school that the student is in one of the upper secondary school classes for the 2023/2024 school year;
Original certificate or proof of completion of lower secondary school (5-8) or proof of completion of the previous year of upper secondary school (I, II, III and IV), i.e. the year school year 2022/23;

For social cases - Certification from the Center for Social Work of Kosovo which proves that the family receives social assistance and Certification from the Employment Center in Kosovo for the work status of both parents (or guardians) that both parents are unemployed;
In case the parents are in a working relationship, it is preferable to submit the certificate from the employer who is in the working relationship or the employment contract;
For orphans - submit a certificate from the Center for Social Work;
Statement on the ethnicity of the applicant (Self-Declaration);
Birth extract;
Copy of the notification letter or passport (if the applicant has one).
A copy of the applicant's bank account (in case the applicant cannot open an account, then the account must be submitted in the name of one of the parents along with a copy of the parent's letter of notification)

 

Conditions for awarding scholarships:

The selection of scholarship winners will be made according to the following criteria:

Success based on the average grade of the previous school year;
Social status (parents' employment, family status and livelihood, etc.);
Special preference will be given to girls;
The distance between the place where the student lives and attends school;
Special preference will be given to students without one or both parents;

Candidates will be ranked according to the total number of points obtained from the criteria defined by this competition.

Application deadline and selection of winners:

The application period starts on 09.02.2024 and ends on 22.02.2024.

Applications sent after the above date as well as incomplete documentation will not be considered.

The results will be published on the website of our organization www.vorae.org as well as on the website of social networks: Voice of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians

Amount and number of scholarships:

The amount of the scholarship is 30 euros per month, or 300 euros for an academic year. The number of scholarship recipients for the 2023/2024 school year is 80.

Scholarships are paid during the school year, through the bank account, based on the installment/installments determined by the commission (in two (2) or more installments).

 

Method of application:

The application and the necessary documentation required in this competition must be submitted to the premises of the NGO "Voice of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians", Rr: Ali Pashë Tepelena, Aktash, 10 000 Prishtina, or through the e-mail address s.garipi.@ vorae.org under the heading "Scholarship Application"

Unsatisfied candidates can file a complaint within three (3) days from the day the results are announced.

The complaint can be submitted to the administration of the NGO "Voice of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians" through the e-mail address info@vorae.org. The complaint must be justified and must be accompanied by documents that substantiate the complaint. After receiving the complaint, it will be reviewed and within 3 days, the person who submitted the complaint will receive an answer.

Based on the decision of the Selection Committee for the allocation of scholarships, the student signs the scholarship contract, which defines the rights and obligations related to the use of the scholarship.

Scholarships are non-refundable. The NGO "Voice of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians" will monitor whether the students who are beneficiaries of the scholarship attend the lessons and whether they regularly participate in the mentoring hours that are part of the program.
The beneficiary of the scholarship will be terminated in the event that:
- Is a beneficiary of a scholarship through another organization or institution;
- Drops out of school;
- There is an unreasonable number of absences following the lesson;
- There is a large and sudden drop in success;
- I do not attend mentoring and tutoring classes regularly.
