The 2019 Western Balkans Summit in Poznań

Voice of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians representative participated the The 2019 Western Balkans Summit in Poznań, held between 3rd and 5th of July 2019, the sixth annual summit within the Berlin Process initiative for European integration of Western Balkans states.

At the Summit, VoRAE participated to, among others, the RCC Roma Integration Team panel discussion ‘Western Balkans Partners Declaration on Roma and EU Enlargement: From Words to Acts’.

The Declaration of Western Balkans Partners on Roma Integration within the EU Enlargement Process is presented, which should be adopted today by Prime Ministers of Western Balkan countries as a pledge for their reiterated commitment to continue and enhance efforts for full equality and integration of Roma through implementation of specific set of measures in the areas of employment, education, housing, health, civil registration and non-discrimination.

Governments of WB countries understand that progress on Roma integration is progress towards enlargement. Therefore, our participation in this event, as part of the group of now strong Roma based civil society organizations from the national countries of the region, was of crucial importance to this process and as stated by us, we’ll continue to give our contribution and switch the challenges into opportunities. RCC also introduced the results of the Balkan Barometer 2019, which showed that things have been achieved but yet, a lot remains to be done.
